The Catholic Cemeteries Board will now offer a special plan to families for the cremated remains of their stillborn babies which includes free interment, resting place and memorial - an offer that will provide a special place and considerable savings in these very sad circumstances.

According to Chief Executive Officer Michael McMahon, the Catholic Cemeteries Board will offer the interment in a crypt-niche as a way to ease the burden on families in their hour of need.

“Every parent deserves the right to an affordable place to hold their loved one’s remains,” says Mr. McMahon. “Having a place to visit and reflect can bring healing to families. We want to further help these families by offering a free memorialisation of their loved one.”

Located within the prestigious Mausoleum of the Resurrection, the Holy Innocents crypt will be individually inscribed with the child’s name and date of death and overlooks the cemetery’s landscaped gardens.

Parents and families can also choose to hold a memorial service at one of the cemetery’s many onsite chapels and are welcome at each of the monthly cemetery masses.

Amanda Bowles, who runs of Bears of Hope – Pregnancy & Infant Loss Support, welcomes the idea. She says that any parent that loses a child is entitled to grieve the loss of that life.
