Catholic Cemeteries Board Donates Tractor

In a timely reading of the “Letters to the Editor” in The Catholic Weekly’s issue dated 30 May, 2010, Michael McMahon (CEO, Catholic Cemeteries & Crematoria), noted that the Diocese of Fiji was looking for a tractor.

They were interested in any tractor that could assist them with the cultivation of their land which, in turn, would assist them with growing crops for their community.

Michael advised Mons Brian Rayner, Parish Priest at St Catherine Laboure, Gymea (the author of the appeal letter) about the possibility of a second-hand tractor that he had been considering trading-in shortly.  This particular tractor has been used in our cemetery for almost 14 years and is in good working condition.

The tractor owned by the Catholic Cemeteries Board is a 12 volt 40 HP Kubota Tractor, Model L3250 2 x 4, with capacity for auxiliary hydraulics and has 2 x 29 litre duel fuel tanks.

The Catholic Cemeteries Board was enthusiastic in being able to offer and support another Diocese in the Pacific.  At their meeting on 24 June, 2010, the Governors unanimously agreed to the donation and wanted to ensure that the Catholic community of Fiji was provided with the necessary tools to make their operation more sustainable.  The tractor is now on the water, bound for Fiji
